2025: transition to the national domain
As every year, on January 1, copyrighted works are transferred to the category of “national domain”: after 70, 60 or 50 years (depending on the rules of a particular country) from the date of creation, publication or after the death of the authors, the works become available for use by everyone. That is, you can print them, modify them, use them as part of your own work.
The year 2025 does not bring too many expected works, but you can still get something interesting.
So, here’s what we can use starting from January 1:
Mickey Mouse: images from the cartoons “The Gallopin’ Gaucho” and “Plane Crazy” can be used without risking persecution by Disney lawyers
Hemingway’s “Farewell to Arms” and Alfred Deblin’s “Berlin Alexanderplatz”, Faulkner’s “The Sound and the Fury”, as well as some paintings by René Magritte (“The Treachery of Images”), Salvador Dalí (“The Great Masturbator” and “The Accommodations of Desire”), Kandinsky (“Upward”), and some other works.
