Digest 13-20 October
Ukraine
- The law on tax increases for the majority of Ukrainian market participants was adopted in the second reading. Special attention should be paid to group 3 individual entrepreneurs, the tax increase will be significant for them. It is still possible that additional changes will be introduced before the final enactment of the law, please remember to consult your financial advisors. A reminder for those who want to consult a specialist: Seller Online provides a consultation service with an accountant, and service of establishing and closing an IE, filing the report, and so on. You can request the service from the website page or your personal cabinet.
- Ukrposhta published the results of the joint Etsy projects contest: 500 out of 1800 applicants will receive funding, mentoring, and assistance in launching a business on Etsy. You can read the details on Ukrposhta’s Facebook account or their website. What’s interesting: this is the first time Etsy has conducted a project aimed specifically at sellers from Ukraine. We hope that our interests will be better represented on the platform.
USA
- Hurricane Milton passed through the USA, which promised to be the most destructive in the last century. Fortunately, the catastrophic forecasts did not come true: Florida was certainly affected, and part of the state was left without electricity and communications, but now even postal communications with this part of the country are getting better.
- Final preparations for Halloween: unlike many other holidays, they are getting ready for it well in advance. Halloween shopping focuses mainly on home goods and décor, and they are usually prepared several months before the date. Now only stores with quick delivery from the warehouse in the United States have time to take advantage of Halloween. Last-minute shoppers will be looking for exactly those options. In general, however, Halloween sales start as early as August and can result in a solid average check.
- There is little time left before the US presidential election, and the market is very feverish about it. You can notice a decrease in sales, postponed planned transactions, and general nervousness of buyers. Next month, this trend may significantly reduce revenues, even though the High Season has started.
Etsy
- Speaking of the Season. Black Friday sales are already scheduled, and you won’t be able to jump in: you had to apply for participation and plan for discounts of 25% or more before the beginning of October. However, the “holiday sales” section traditionally does not bring much profit to sellers, so if you forgot to participate, don’t get upset. You can put your own discount for this period.
- Etsy is actively reinforcing its control systems. Pre-Christmas sales are always accompanied by increased fraud, theft, and unscrupulous marketers, both buyers and sellers. You may already notice that the percentage of canceled transactions has increased as Etsy insures against payments by stolen cards or simply suspicious transactions.
- There has also been a noticeable increase in the rate of stores blocked for “violation of handmade policy”– meaning that Etsy suspects you of reselling purchased items because your photos were found on Aliexpress, Amazon, or other websites. This is a very unpleasant and dangerous event that is better prevented.
